The Garden Awakens
Kashmir in spring is a sensory riot. The famous Tulip Garden in Srinagar blazes with over a million blooms — reds, purples, and yellows carpeting the hillside against the backdrop of snow-capped Zabarwan. Chinar trees sprout their five-pointed leaves, and the valley sheds its winter coat to reveal every shade of green.
Season Highlights
- Asia's largest Tulip Garden (April) in full bloom
- Almond and cherry blossoms across Srinagar orchards
- Meadows of Pahalgam turning lush green
- Dal Lake shikara rides with wildflower garlands
- Mild temperatures perfect for sightseeing
- Festivals: Navroz, Shikara Festival on Dal Lake

8°C – 20°C
Crowds

What to Pack

The Peak of Paradise
While the plains of India swelter at 40°C+, Kashmir sits at a perfect 22–28°C. This is peak tourist season — and for good reason. Gulmarg's meadow turns an impossible shade of green, the gondola runs at full capacity, and treks to Thajiwas Glacier and Kolahoi become accessible. The Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage draws hundreds of thousands.
Season Highlights
- Gulmarg gondola — Asia's highest cable car at 3,979m
- Thajiwas Glacier walks near Sonamarg
- Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage (July–August)
- Lush green Betaab Valley and Aru Valley
- Houseboat evenings on Dal Lake
- World-class golf at Gulmarg Golf Club
Temperature
15°C – 28°C
Crowds
Peak season — book 3-4 months ahead
What to Pack
Light cottons, one warm layer for evenings, rain jacket (July–Aug)

Kashmir Turns to Gold
Many travellers and photographers consider autumn Kashmir's most beautiful season. The ancient Chinar trees that line avenues and fill Mughal garden courtyards ignite into fiery reds and golds. The air is crisp and luminous. Saffron harvest begins in Pampore — you can walk through purple fields in late October. Crowds thin out from peak summer, and deals become available.
Season Highlights
- Chinar foliage — reds, oranges, golds across Srinagar
- Saffron harvest (late October) in Pampore fields
- Mughal Gardens at their most scenic
- Clear mountain views as monsoon haze clears
- Pahalgam apple orchards heavy with fruit
- Photography golden hours — warm light all day
Temperature
5°C – 22°C
Crowds
Moderate — shoulder season deals available
What to Pack
Medium layers, warm jacket (October–November), scarf

A Snow-White Fairyland
Winter Kashmir is magical but demanding. Gulmarg becomes a world-class ski resort — snow depths of 5–6 metres attract skiers from across Asia. Srinagar is quieter, atmospheric, and dramatically different. The famous houseboats keep warm with bukharis (traditional braziers), and Kashmiri kehwa takes on a whole new comfort. Sonamarg and Pahalgam roads may close; Gulmarg remains accessible.
Season Highlights
- Gulmarg skiing — Asia's best off-piste and groomed runs
- Snowfall photography across the valley
- Heated houseboat stays with bukhari warmth
- Frozen Dal Lake walks (January – February)
- Very low tourist numbers — peaceful and authentic
- Kehwa and Kashmiri bread culture
Temperature
−10°C – 6°C
Crowds
Low (except Gulmarg which is busy for skiing)
What to Pack
Heavy thermals, snow boots, waterproof layers, gloves and hat essential
